 DDNS is cool!

During my migration to Cable Internet from DSL, I configured DD-DRT to use DDNS. Once you have an account with either DynDNS.org, TZO.com or ZoneEdit.com your dynamic DNS that your ISP gives you can be associated with a "name" so that you can connect using say foo.tzo.com etc. It only took 3 minutes to setup and it works great! The cool part is that the DD-DRT will handle updates of your DDNS account when your ISP assigns you a new IP. This way you can always locate your home servers. Please note to set "wild card" to yes on both sides so that you can do things like "www.foo.tzo.com" and it will resolve to your web server etc. Also note that you will have to setup your firewall to allow traffic to flow, foo.tzo.com will resolve to your home IP address, but nothing will get through until it's setup correctly.

dd-drt is a Linux distribution that runs on the Linksys WRT52G wireless G routers. Please see dd-drt.org for more info.

 NASA Need's your help... Really!

NASA's Stardust mission has safely returned to Earth with samples of comet dust. Here's the cool part. They're looking for people to volunteer spare computer cycles to help them analyze what they've got.

Small MP3 Player for around $50 Hackable?

These MP3 players can be found for around $40-50 and have full LCD readouts. There are small enough to fit in your pocket and can hold 11 hours of music and or podcasts. They run on one AAA battery that will give you up to 11 hours of play time. What's also cool is that there now is a project to produce an Open Firmware for them. Check out http://www.s1mp3.org/en/ to keep up to date on tricks and hacks to these pocket sized Z80 computers!
